Unheimlich / A Mother’s Album (2025)

This series utilises photographic snapshots captured throughout my quotidian experiences as a mother to illuminate the frequently uncanny, unsettling, and abject interactions that transpire between a mother and child. These otherwise mundane experiences provide the primary caregiver, most often the mother, with a glimpse into alternative modes of existence that operate outside the boundaries of established societal frameworks. They reveal forays into chaos, manic expression, staunch defiance, non-sexual inter-bodily intimacy, humorous mimicry, comical inversions of the symbolic order, and non-linear conceptions of time. What insights do these glimpses into transgressive spaces offer mothers regarding alternative ways of being that challenge the Western imperatives of rationality, individuality, relentless progress, and conformity?
